Is your blog leaking money?

So, you’re one of those people that makes money online with a blog, right? You’re informing the world on how to build a better blog, get more readers, and earn more money. So what is all that adsense crap doing on your blog!

Here’s one of those things that I don’t understand (anymore). Obviously bloggers that blog about blogging for money are in it for the money (That sentence should get the SEO keyword tactics out of the way for the rest of this post). All they write about day in – day out, is about optimizing a blog to generate income. They like to diversify income streams, by adding several advertising networks on their site.

So this is the part where I get confused. I totally get it, you’re in it for the money, and you will go to extremes to earn some. But by having so many cheap exit-points (an average Adsense click doesn’t do more than 5 cents these days I believe) on your site, you are significantly decreasing the odds of your visitors clicking on the big prize for you. If I were you guys, and I wanted to make money with my blog, I would make sure that I was promoting just one major affiliate product, and perhaps do secondary product promotions in single posts every now and again.

Research (and common sense) shows that there are three ways a visitor will leave your site.

1. They close their browser.
2. They use the backbutton.
3. They click on a link on your site.

Now wouldn’t you rather have one third of all your visitors click on an affiliate link, where the average payout will be over five-hundered times higher then that Adsense or Adbrite click?

It all started with a leak

It all started with a leak

I suggest that you have a long, hard look at your blog, and get rid of all the ads that are essentially leaking money from your site.

    • I plan to do some affiliates but since my target market is not from North America, the chance of converting is very low. So adsense and TLA are the only revenue streams I have on my site.

But I'm currently working on a website where I plan to start my affiliates and target north american visitors... or maybe europe, too!

By the way, what's the affiliate program that you would recommend? CJ, ClickBank, etc?

There are so many different affiliate networks out there, I couldn't start by recommending one. It really depends on your target market. I suggest that you Google a little before you join a new network, just to see what other people are saying about it and get a feel for it.
    • I make anywhere from $3.00 to $12.00 a day from adsense. It's the only way I've monetized any of my blogs. Could I make more, sure I could but then instead of giving people relevant content geared towards the blog topic I'd have to start writing sales pitches. Some people do that and do that very well, but personally I'd rather have fun writing about what I write about and let the content sell itself. If people click the ads, great but if not as long as they still benefit from the content I see no problems with that.

Well I guess that's one way of looking at it. If you care more about what your visitors think, instead of how much money you can make today, I think you're on the right way.

Its all about building long term relationships that will eventually pay off, forget about making a quick buck.

It doesn't take more traffic, it just takes a little more time of you have lower traffic volume. If you are patient enough to site around and wait for all those adsense clicks to add up to a substantial amount, that's fine, but I'd much rather get hit with affiliate sales.

And I guess there is some truth in what niche you are in. My main point is that you should try and get as much profit from an exit point as possible. I like my odds much better with affiliate sales links.
    • I disagree.

Adsense is a very Passive income. It takes a lot more traffic to convert one big product than it does to get someone to click a link.

So, if you are in the right niche, you can do just as well with AdSense as you can trying to sell one big product.

      Conversion rate is the difference.

    • Absolutely correct.
I am agree with you.But read John Chow,Yaro Stark. But they are doing?
They fool the people by writing the phrase "How to make money"
They are making money but their followers are not because they are more tactful than their followers.
    • Bob
I don't think they are fooling people. John Chow's title tag even reads:"I Make Money Online by Telling People How I Make Money Online".

That seems pretty straight forward and honest to me :)
